Online Reputation Management

1) What is ORM?

Online reputation management, or ORM, is the practice of consistent research and analysis of one’s personal or professional, business or industry reputation as represented by the content across all types of online media. Good Online Reputation can be raised by utilizing sophisticated online and offline techniques in promoting positive and neutral content, reviews, comments, posts etc.

Online Reputation Management is growing importance by the day. With information spreading lightening fast on internet, monitoring search results for any company's brand, trademark or product becomes extremely important. Brand Reputation can be disturbed by a single entry in any protest sites which may make user’s mind skeptical to do any business with that company; companies can be discredited by old PR mishaps or articles appearing when searched for the company name or company’s products and services. In most cases not really genuine complaints or some very old entry can touch the image of the company or brand and can often affect user’s decision to purchase.

2) How to Monitor ORM?

We can monitor our online reputation by checking our company's online reviews( Good or bad), comments or any post saying something about our company periodically (Good, Neutral or offensive) on blogsites, social media sites, online public communities, forums and discussions or online consumer complaint sites etc.

3) Is it industry specific?

Well the answer is NO because reputation is an intangible asset. It is goodwill of any business. Also reputation is simply a reputation, whether is it online or physical reputation. It could be either good or it could be bad (Positive or Negative). So it is always good to have a good reputation for any company for a better business prospects.

      4) Is it location specific?

Well technically it is not location specific; however it varies person to person for example, if an online buyer got a bad comment against the merchant thru which he was planning to buy merchandise or anything. It completely depend on that person whether to take that bad comment seriously or not. At last it’s all customer’s decision.

5) Channels to monitor ORM?

There are thousands of blog sites, online public communities, forums and discussion site etc hence it is not possible to login to millions of sites and check our reviews or comments. Just to save time, we have several tools available online which we can use to dig almost all the pages on the internet who are saying something about us. From there we can check it manually which is the most important content we must take a look at and then as per the comment or complaint, reply accordingly to neutralize or defend our reputation.

Here are some websites helps us to check anything which is related to our business, products or services on the internet.

6) How to analyze and monitor ORM of a company?

To analyze ORM of any company we need reliable, relevant and complete data. On the basis of that data ORM analysis can be done. There are thousands of blogsites, comment sites, online Forums and discussion, online consumer complaint sites etc. It is not possible to login or visit each and every websites manually and check for our companies or brands reviews, comments, complaints etc, also it would be very time consuming. Hence there are some online tools and soft wares available who do this bulky online research on behalf of us and provide data on company’s online reputation. Later we can analyze that data to check our online brand reputation on the basis of our customer’s reviews (Good, neutral, Bad) comments (Good, neutral, offensive) posts etc. If we found any bad review in that data, we can take suitable actions to defend or neutralize that bad review.
